Check Your Feet!
Two million Hispanics have diabetes. The risk
of a lower leg amputation is 15-40 times greater than the risk for non-diabetics.
Of the 82,000 diabetes-related amputations in the
U.S. each year-the number has risen dramatically-most could be prevented
with proper foot care.
Football player Roberto Garza, whose grandfather
lost part of his foot to diabetes, is urging diabetics to check their
feet daily. Garza says "I want to use my position to help others avoid
what happened in my family."
