Shoe Buying Tips
| 1 |
Buy "walking shoes" made for back-to-front movement.
Avoid other athletic shoes, even running shoes whose thick soles
can be a tripping hazard for many seniors. |
| 2 |
Focus on comfort and fit, not the size. Size can vary greatly
by company and the country of origin. |
| 3 |
Account for swelling. Shop for shoes at the end of the day or
after a workout. |
| 4 |
Bring your athletic socks or any special inserts you normally
wear. |
| 5 |
Make sure you can wiggle your toes inside the shoes. You should
have about a half-inch between your longest toe and the end of
the shoe. |
| 6 |
Take a good walk around the store. The shoes should feel comfortable
from the start. |
| 7 |
Buy athletic socks or special "walking" socks that provide extra
cushioning. |
